Why Young People Struggle Financially—And How to Fix It

Have you ever pictured your future? Have you thought about how you will provide for your children, support your aging parents, and sustain yourself in retirement?

Many young people today face serious financial struggles due to a lack of planning. Without good financial habits, you may find yourself trapped in a cycle of debt, regret, and hardship.

Why You Must Take Responsibility for Your Finances Now

1️⃣ Your Dreams and Goals Depend on Financial Stability

No matter what you want to achieve—starting a business, buying a home, or traveling the world—you need money. As King Solomon wisely said, "Money answers all things." (Ecclesiastes 10:19).

2️⃣ Financial Stability Prevents Regret

Imagine getting married and struggling to provide for your family. Your children are sent home from school due to unpaid fees, and your landlord threatens to evict you. You don’t want to live in regret—plan now.

3️⃣ You Will Need to Support Your Aging Parents

Just as your parents cared for you when you were young, the time will come when they will need your support. Will you be financially ready to help them?

4️⃣ You Must Prepare for Retirement

Old age will come. The money you save now can be used for investments, business, healthcare, or simply living a comfortable life after retirement. Will you be financially independent, or will you struggle?

How to Take Control of Your Financial Future

✔ Save a portion of your income every month.

✔ Invest in assets like businesses, stocks, real estate, and fixed deposits.

✔ Avoid unnecessary spending—every naira counts.

✔ Educate yourself—get books on personal finance.

Take Action Now

Financial success doesn’t happen by accident—it requires discipline, planning, and action. Start today, and your future self will thank you.

Word of the Year for 2025

Transformation.

[noun] 1. change in form, appearance, nature, or character.

(Originally I had chose a different word, but then I realize my goals did not align with that word... so I changed it! I can always change it again, if I need to!)

September of 2024 began my journey of self love, self development, self awareness, and self improvement. I sat down with a journal and a determination to be a better me. To be a me who is true to myself and accepts who I am.

There is so much I have to learn and to work on, so many goals I aim to reach, but I know it will be a process. Perhaps one that never ends. I accept that, because I truly want to be the real me I know I am at my core and I want to express myself to others in honesty and with transparency.

This word means more than just my own transformation. It will apply to how I approach challenges, how I think, how I react, how I live and ultimately the world around me. I will struggle, but I have my wonderful husband at my side and friends who will stick with me through the hard parts.

I look forward to leaving my cocoon and spreading my wings.

Word Of The Year For 2025

It is December 26th, 2024 and I have fully filled two journals I've owned since at least 2019. From front to back they are filled with random things that crossed my mind, notes of my interests, and things I never felt safe to share.

I am proud of filling them. Proud they are no longer blank pages. Excited to start in the next.

I have learned so much about myself since I started my journey of self discovery and self love in September. I am such a unique, smart, and thoughtful individual, but I am sure everyone says that about themselves. There's so much I have to learn about myself and so much I want to accomplish. I have to work on how I set and approach goals, but that's a challenge I welcome.

I am starting to slowly understand myself and I am so excited to meet me.

November came in like the first freeze of winter. Beautiful, but cold and frustrating. I didn't take time to prepare for the change of autumn into winter. I didn't concern myself with the shortening of days and the long stretches of night. This led me into a whirlwind of panic and November clung to me like ice.

December won't be "my month", but it will be a collection of days I will work through bravely. I will continue to move forward and I know I will trip and stumble, but I have to keep my head up and I can't let those moments hold me back.

So I hope all of you welcome this final month of 2024 and all of its challenges. I hope you hold onto the happy memories of this year and use them as your strength while we coast into the next.

𝒯𝑜𝒹𝒶𝓎 𝐼 𝓈𝓊𝒸𝒸𝑒𝑒𝒹𝑒𝒹 𝒾𝓃 𝓂𝓎 𝑒𝓍𝒶𝓂 ♡

𝒯𝑜𝒹𝒶𝓎 𝐼 𝓈𝓊𝒸𝒸𝑒𝑒𝒹𝑒𝒹 𝒾𝓃 𝓂𝓎 𝑒𝓍𝒶𝓂 ♡

I spent the last week preparing for it, reading textbooks while drinking coffee in the afternoons, romanticizing the process of studying, setting reminders to drink water.

I annotated my books, I highlighted the important parts, I wrote detailed notes on harder topics, revised everything and more. The more you read, the more sticks in your mind.

I prayed for my success.

I manifested picking a topic I could be good in. And it happened, to no one's surprise.

𝒯𝑜𝒹𝒶𝓎 𝐼 𝓈𝓊𝒸𝒸𝑒𝑒𝒹𝑒𝒹 𝒾𝓃 𝓂𝓎 𝑒𝓍𝒶𝓂 ♡

The written part didn't go the best, as I was in poor health then, and it was my first long exam (4 hours), but hopefully my oral exam bettered that.

The results will be in next week, and I can barely wait. I miss studying now, but soon the adrenaline will leave and I don't want to overwork myself, I need rest to recharge my mind.

Studying is good for your mind, especially when you reap the rewards of your hard and honest work. Being complimented by your teacher on your knowledge is just one of the world's best feeling. I feel happy with myself.

How Childhood Trauma Can Show Up In Adulthood

Childhood trauma can have a deep and lasting impact on your development, some scenarios we would not even consider to be " trauma" but it comes down to how you as a child perceived the situation. To add to that, you could have had a great childhood factually, or by your understanding, because it is all you knew. I’ll give you an example, do you find yourself putting everyone else before you? Maybe when you were little you had an experience with a parent where they put someone else before you in a situation that was significant to you at the time, and that feeling got registered in your subconscious. Maybe you got rewarded for the experience or reprimanded. It could have been very harmless. You may not even remember unless you start to think about it. None the less the root of a lot of our triggers, habits and insecurities boil down to our childhood experiences, that stay buried in our subconscious and often manifesting in various ways during adulthood.

You have a have a hard time controlling your feelings. You might get super angry or not feel anything at all.

You are scared to fail.

You blame yourself for your mistakes and bad choices from your past and have a hard time forgiving yourself.

You worry about what other people think about you or in general and may feel scared a lot.

You are too clingy or too distant and cant find a balance.

You don't trust yourself to make decisions and need constant validation or someone else to make decisions for you.

You feel really sad and down most of the time.

You suffer from negative self talk, are very hard on yourself and really believe those things to be true.

You constantly criticize others.

You need external validation to feel accepted.

You are always anxious.

You are hypersensitive to criticism.

You are terrified of change.

You find it hard to take compliments and truly believe you are not worthy.

You find it hard to keep good relationships because you're scared of getting hurt and feel like you cant get close to others.

You try to be perfect and want to do everything perfectly because you think it will help avoid bad things from happening.

You might eat too much or too little because you are feeling bad or want to control things.

You can't stop thinking about bad stuff that happened before and might have nightmares or feel like they're living it again.

You may feel like they're not really in their body or like things around them aren't real because of what happened in the past.

You avoid things because they remind you of bad stuff that happened.

Sometimes people stay away from things that remind them of bad stuff that happened.

You might have more health problems like headaches or stomachaches.

You do things that hurt you or others, and you don't even realize it because you learned it from when you were young.

You might work extra hard to be successful because you want others to like you or because you don't feel good about yourself.

You rather be alone because you feel embarrassed or worried about what others think.

You try really hard to control everything in your life.

You water yourself down and put everyone else before you.

all about mobility

All About Mobility
All About Mobility
All About Mobility

what is mobility & how is it different from flexibility?

mobility is the ability of the joints to move through their full range of motion, while flexibility is the ability of the muscles to temporarily stretch.

why do mobility training?

there are many different benefits of mobility training, including:

increased flexibility

reduced risk of injury

improving joint & muscle health

improving range of motion

improving posture

gaining muscle strength

balance & stability

reducing pain & stiffness in the body

when should i start?

now! there’s a common misconception that you shouldn’t need mobility training until you are in your later years and your mobility starts to decline, but mobility training is useful no matter your age. in fact, the sooner you start, the less mobility & joint problems you will experience as you age.

how often should i train mobility?

mobility training is safe and beneficial to do daily, but ideally, you should try to train mobility at least 5 times per week for at least 5-10 minutes each time.

how much exercise should you do per week for maximum health benefits?

How Much Exercise Should You Do Per Week For Maximum Health Benefits?
How Much Exercise Should You Do Per Week For Maximum Health Benefits?
How Much Exercise Should You Do Per Week For Maximum Health Benefits?

note: while getting enough of different types of exercise is important, as different types of exercise bring different primary benefits, the most important thing is that you are moving your body! don’t feel pressured to do a strict amount of cardio per week if you don’t like cardio, especially if you are new to exercise. this goes for any other type of exercise. it’s totally okay to do the exercise you enjoy doing, as long as you are doing it!

how much cardio should you be doing?

while this may differ according to your personal health, conditions you may have, your goals, etc. (as with any other form of exercise), the general advice given by professionals and the American Heart Association is at least 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity or 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity per week. if we are going with 150 minutes per week, this would mean at least 21 minutes per day, or 30 minutes 5x per week. this schedule may vary depending on your schedule, but the overall goal is 75 or 150 minutes per week!

how much strength/weight training should you be doing?

while different professional sources have varying opinions on this, the most common advice is 60-90 minutes per week. if we are using 90 minutes per week, this would equal to 13 minutes per day, 18 minutes 5x per week, or 30 minutes 3x per week.

how much yoga/stretching should you be doing?

it is important to at least include a short cool down stretch after your workout to prevent injury and reduce soreness, but when it comes to yoga, it is recommended that you include at least a 1 hour session 3x per week, although doing a bit each day is considered ideal. using the guide of 3 hours per week, this would equal 26 minutes per day, 36 minutes 5x per week, or 60 minutes 3x per week.

how much pilates should you be doing?

while many do not include pilates in their routine or do not consider it necessary, i and many others find it incredibly beneficial due to its ability to work the smaller muscle groups that weight training usually does not. it is generally recommended that you do a 45 minute session 3-4x per week. this would also equal 19 minutes daily if you prefer to split it that way.
