“The Household Cavalry is renowned worldwide for the splendours of all those unique ceremonies at the heart of the nation, and today, seeing you all on parade here, I can see you continue to represent the very best of that ceremonial brilliance.”

The King addressed troops today during the Presentation of New Standards to The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals.

The King, as Colonel in Chief of the Household Cavalry, and The Princess Royal, as Colonel of The Blues and Royals, inspected the Parade at Windsor Castle, before the Standards were presented.

The Standards symbolise the Cavalry Squadrons’ history, achievements and identity, and are held in the highest reverence.

The King’s new Great Seal of the Realm has been unveiled, a symbol of Sovereign authority traditionally affixed to official state documents to signify Royal approval.

Uniquely designed for each Monarch, the Seal's design was approved by His Majesty, who entrusted it into the custody of the Lord High Chancellor during a Privy Council meeting. In keeping with centuries-old tradition, the old Seal was symbolically defaced by the Monarch himself and preserved for historical record.

King Charles ||| 💬 “I do hope your celebrations tonight are almost as joyful, although I rather doubt I shall have the energy to sing until 2am, let alone for that matter to lead you all in a giant conga from here back to Buckingham Palace!”

Last night at 9pm, The King delivered a speech to mark exactly 80 years since his grandfather, King George VI, addressed the nation on VE Day.

King Charles |||💬 “Now, as then, we are united in giving utmost thanks to all those who served in the Armed Forces, the uniformed services, the Home Front, indeed all the people of this country, the Commonwealth and beyond whose firm resolve and fortitude helped destroy Nazism and carry our allied nations through to V.E. Day. That debt can never truly be repaid; but we can, and we will, remember them.“

Tonight, at a concert to mark #VEDay80, The King paid tribute to all those who sacrificed their lives in World War Two.

His Majesty’s speech was delivered at 9pm, the exact same time that his grandfather, King George VI, made a radio broadcast on VE day in 1945.

🎬🍿💙 Rolling out the blue carpet…

This evening, The King attended the Film Premiere of ‘Ocean with David Attenborough’. The film highlights how the ocean has shaped the world, and why the future of the planet is intertwined with the health of the ocean.

🌊His Majesty, as Prince of Wales, first marked the issue of oil and plastic pollution in the sea in 1970 when he was 21 years old. Since then, The King has continued to champion the importance of ocean health.

On the second anniversary of The Coronation of 6th May 2023, two commissioned Coronation

State Portraits, of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, have been unveiled by Their Majesties in the Central Hall at the National Gallery.

The portraits, which will form part of the Royal Collection, were painted by two different artists personally selected by The King and Queen. His Majesty chose to be painted by Peter Kuhfeld and Queen Camilla selected Paul S. Benney.

Both artists are known to The King and Queen already, having previously contributed to other royal commissions. These portraits will join an important tradition of Coronation State Portraits dating back many centuries.

The new portraits will be on display in the Central Hall at the National Gallery, of which The King is Royal Patron, from Tuesday 6th May until Thursday 5th June. They will then move to their permanent home in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace. They can be seen there as part of a visit during the Summer Opening of the State Rooms (10th July – 28th September 2025).

The tree was gifted by The King of Sweden from the Royal Nursery at Solliden Palace, the Swedish Royal Family’s summer residence.

During the planting, The King of Sweden used a spade first used by his great grandfather King Gustaf V in 1908 when he planted an oak tree at Windsor with King Edward VII. 🪏
