Imagine a fic where Wylan was kicked out when his father realised he couldn’t read (so at around eight or nine) and somehow survives in the barrel long enough to befriend Kaz, who is just a year or so older than him. Kaz develops a soft spot for this child who was reborn in the water same as he was, and Wylan essentially becomes his right hand man as Kaz works his way up the dregs and they become inseparable and all that. The rest of the story continues as in canon except Wylan is a bit more of a hardened criminal with less of a conscience and he and Kaz have a closer relationship (+ they’re very protective of each other obviously).

I feel like the Wesper dynamic would be really interesting as well, with Jesper perhaps being the more naive one in this.

Coming into a fandom late

I just don't think the whole bureaucracy thing makes sense for Heaven and Hell. Like why does it even exist? They have free will, don't they? Angels and demons don't have to do any of that work, they have everything they need to live a full and happy life? Why do they even need to work and collect souls? I mean, why would any sane person willingly choose to take orders and work all day every day their entire lives? Why would they suffocate themselves in dank, dirty offices, and corporate, soulless buildings? Why would they torture and opress each other instead of agreeing on collective happiness? Like, you are so close. You are so close to getting the point. "Big" IPs *can only exist because they are normal*. They will *never* be weird. They will *never* do what you want. Go find some smaller IPs. Bring back discovery. Bring back never having heard of a book before you buy it. Bring back watching obscure anime online that none of your friends know about. Bring back trying new things, even if they're bad or cheaply made. That is how you get *weird*.
