El: Hey Mike, if we got all the cats in the world to meow at once, how loud would it be?
Mike: The average cat meow is 65/75dB, above speaking volume but below shouting. There are about 2 billion cats in the world. So, by that math, 130 to 150 dB, which is about 100 million jets all taking off at once.
El: ...cat-astrophiclly loud
1. determine the reason why you’re in a bad mood. is it something that has recently happened? is it stress? low self esteem? too much social media and not enough self expression? whatever it is, knowing the reason why you’re down will help you manage it.
2. write in your journal/talk to someone. it’s so important to sit through your thoughts/feelings instead of avoiding them. avoiding them will only make you feel worse about yourself. talking or writing about your problems will also relax you and get you a clear mind.
3. workout. it’s actually very common advice for people with mental health problems. when you exercise your body produces chemicals (endorphins) which make you feel good! so exercising regularly makes you happier in general!
4. do something you enjoy. it can be creative thing like drawing, writing etc. or it can be something as simple as watching your favorite tv show, reading a book or listening to music.
5. lastly, remember that its okay not to be okay. you don’t have to be happy all the time! its totally normal to feel bad once in a while. if it’s happening frequently though and it’s affecting the quality of your life you should consider getting professional help.
